Male Morphological Description: Valves are oval in shape with deep incisur. Valve length = 1.450-1.550 mm. Valve height = 0.825-0.900 mm. Color: Mostly transparent, except for dirty-yellow and brownish light organ and rich brown gut. Eye: dark brown to maroon-brown color with 16 ommatidia. Lateral eye diameter = 0.250-0.300 mm. Infold setae: Rostrum row (RR) with 9-14 double bristles; 1 double bristle posterior to RR. Anteroventral row (AVR) with 20-28 bristles; 0 bristles anterior to AVR; 0-2 double bristles posterior to AVR. 7th limb: with 8-11 bristles. Furca: with 9 claws. Claws 2 and 4 fused to lamella; claw 3 more slender and the same length or slightly longer than claw 4.
Male Bioluminescent Display: Produce bright zigzag, oblique, or vertical upward displays. Display begins between 25 and 100 cm above the sand about 50 min after sunset, and lasts for at least one hour. Train length is about 40-100 cm, and train duration last 12-20 s.
Female Morphological Description: Valves are oval in shape. Valve length = 2.07 mm. Valve height = 1.20 mm. Lateral eye diameter: 0.21-0.25 mm. Infold setae: Rostral Row (RR) 10-15 double bristles. Anteroventral row (AVR) with 25 or 26 double bristles. 7th limb: distal comb with 3 or 4 bristles; terminal comb with 5 or 6 bristles; distal peg with 4 bristles; terminal peg with 4 or 5 bristles. Furca: with 9 claws. Claws 2 and 4 fused to lamella; claw 3 more slender and the same length or slightly longer than claw 4.
