Habitat: Present in mangrove roots and in submerged brush near the shore. Distribution: This species has been reportef from South Florida to Brazil, and the Bermuda. Characteristics: This oyster measures up to 3 inches long. The shell is compressed and the right valve is more flat. The shell is smooth or scaly. The color pattern consists of a brown, black or purple background and the inside is pearl gray. The juveniles will show some stripes on the exterior.
