Habitat: Sandy areas of the the ocean floor where there is little algae or sea-grass growing. Distribution: Found all along the coast from North Carolina to Uruguay. Natural History Notes: Can burrow into sand in 5-7 minutes, leaving the creature about 25mm under the sand. Depth: 0-60 m (commonly < 25 m) Characteristics: Basic sand dollar plan of subcircular flattened disc, usually yellow to light brown in living color.The thin margined test has six slotlike homes and five short (equal) petals.
